Timber Maintenance
Alexander Rose manufactures garden furniture which will last for many years. Over time, as part of the natural weathering process, cracks and splits in the wood, particularly on the end grain and to a lesser extent on the surface.
The drier the wood, the more cracks will appear due to the evaporation of the natural oils and mineral sin the wood from exposure to the elements. As with most hardwoods, this is a normal characteristic for any timber which remains outdoors.
Alexander Rose furniture is designed with this in mind and its strength and durability will remain unaffected.
Weathering occurs when your garden furniture is used outdoors. Timber is a natural material which will absorb moisture in wet conditions and is likely to expand. In dry conditions the timber dries and may shrink a small amount. As the material moves, surface cracks will appear in the timber. You can maintain the appearance of your furniture by lightly sanding down and applying a specially formulated timber care product.
Alternatively, wooden garden furniture can be left to turn a natural silver grey colour and can be cleaned occasionally to remove any algae or dirt with mild soapy water.
