The free-draining nature of the compost helps keep the bulb on the dry side preventing rotting, while allowing them to access moisture in the soil. Unlike many modern composts it is easy to re-wet and retains moisture well without becoming waterlogged.
There is a base nutrient supply that provides even feeding for your bulbs for a period of 5 to 6 weeks under normal conditions.
