Fennel Foeniculum vulgare Hardy perennial. This highly ornamental herb does not look out of place in the flower border. The ferny foliage provides interest and movement as well as being very useful as a culinary ingredient. The mild aniseed flavour is a particularly good ingredient for a large range of fish dishes.

Sowing Indoors: Alternatively sow a few seeds per 12cm (5in) pot of seed compost. cover with a little more compost or vermiculite, keep moist and place pots on a warm windowsill.
